The Book of Moron Podcast

I am listening to the Book of Moron podcast as Kenneth Pararo hikes the Appalachian Trail.

I discovered Kenneth Pararo’s Book of Moron podcast in the late fall of 2025 when I was looking for bicycle touring and bikepacking podcasts. At the time, Kenneth was posting a series named ā€œLong Errandā€ about a bicycle tour across the southern United States.

This year Kenneth is hiking the Appalachian Trail, and he has started a new series of episodes named ā€œWalden 11.ā€ Kenneth started on March 6, a pretty early start date, after backpacking four days from his parents’ house to the AT Approach Trail, which starts at Amicalola Falls in Georgia.

I am going along vicariously on this adventure. I think Kenneth and I are very different people, so I’m listening partly to understand how someone different from me thinks about and reacts to things. I did some backpacking in the Pacific Northwest in the 1970s, including short sections of the Pacific Crest Trail, but I have not done a through hike of any of the major trails in the United States. I have read books by people who have hiked the Appalachian Trail or the Pacific Crest Trail, and I’m interested in learning what Kenneth’s experience is like.
