Running Summary June 2025
I ran steadily for 31 weeks without injury before pain in my left knee made me take a break.
After boldly writing a month ago that I would attempt to run 100 miles in June, I stopped running regularly after my run on June 6. I was experiencing pain in my left knee after my runs, especially when climbing or descending stairs.
I don’t try to run through pain, so I’m running much less frequently right now, with only five runs of two to four miles each for the rest of June to test my knee. Since one sign of worn-out shoes for me is minor injuries, I switched from my old Kinvaras (with more than 400 miles on them) to new Kinvara Pros. The Pros are much squishier, and I’m not convinced I like them, but they are reducing stress on my knees and ankles.
My knee is feeling better, but I have been through this many times before, and I may continue to have problems for many weeks, or the pain may go away and I’ll be able to increase my running.
I am proud of what I accomplished at an age when many of my running friends who are my age have quit running. I ran pretty steadily for 31 weeks beginning the first week of November 2024 with an accumulated mileage of 448 miles.
I really, really must not run two days in a row so I can allow for adequate recovery. With my age come other physical limitations: My long run is limited to about eleven miles, and my maximum weekly mileage is limited to about 25 miles. From the table below, I see that I pushed too hard, running 30 miles the week of May 26 with eight-mile runs two days in a row; and I ran two days in a row the following week, after which my left knee was painful enough to make me take a break.
These are the miles I logged from late May through June 2025:
